Bengaluru has no shortage of clinics offering paediatric therapy - which is good news for families, but it also makes the decision harder. Choosing where your child will spend hours of their week deserves more than a quick Google search. Here's what we'd tell any parent evaluating a centre, including our own.
1. Check the Credentials Behind the Name
"Therapist" isn't a protected title everywhere, so ask specifically: is the lead therapist a qualified Occupational Therapist, Speech-Language Pathologist, or Clinical Psychologist, with a recognised degree (BOT/MOT, BASLP/MASLP, or equivalent)? How many years have they spent specifically in paediatric - not adult - rehabilitation? Experience with children is a different skill set entirely.
2. Ask Whether Therapies Are Coordinated or Siloed
Many children need more than one type of support - say, occupational therapy and speech therapy together. Ask directly: do the therapists discuss your child's case with each other, or are you effectively managing two separate treatment plans yourself? A centre where the team meets regularly on each case will catch things a single-discipline clinic might miss.
3. Visit the Clinic Before You Commit
A good paediatric clinic should feel calm, bright and unmistakably built for children - not a repurposed office. Notice whether the space has age-appropriate equipment, whether the environment feels overstimulating or over-clinical, and how staff speak to children during your visit versus how they speak to you.
4. Look for a Real Assessment, Not a Sales Pitch
Be cautious of any centre that recommends a long-term therapy package before properly assessing your child. A trustworthy clinic starts with a consultation and, where needed, a structured assessment - then explains its reasoning in plain language, not just clinical jargon.
5. Consider Location and Consistency
Therapy works best with consistency. A slightly further clinic that you'll struggle to visit twice a week is often a worse choice than a closer one with a comparably strong team. Factor in commute time honestly when comparing options - for South Bengaluru families, this often means weighing centres in Electronic City, HSR Layout, Koramangala and Bommanahalli against each other.
6. Ask How Progress Is Measured and Shared
Ask what a typical progress update looks like, and how often you'll receive one. Clinics that track goals and review them with you periodically tend to produce more accountable, visible progress than those that simply run sessions on a schedule.
A Simple Starting Point
Most reputable centres, including Bihang PDC, offer a short initial consultation before you commit to anything. Use it. Come with questions, watch how the team answers them, and trust your own read of the room - you'll usually know within one visit whether it's the right fit for your child.
